Also known as Little Bluestem Grass, schizachyrium is an excellent native choice for gardeners looking to bring texture, sound, and color to the yard. 'Smoke Signal' is named for the scarlet red and deep purple tones that the plant takes on through late summer and fall. This cultivar was selected because it provides a strictly upright habit and doesn't fall like some other varieties. This native plant has great appeal for its coloration and strictly upright, narrow columnar growth habit. It has a wide variety of uses including: container planting, accenting a hardscape, border planting, adding vertical accent, or as a specimen plant.
