Malus 'prairie fire' or the Prairie Fire Crabapple is a stunning tree that blooms with an abundance of bright pink almost red flowers in the spring. In the spring you will also see the dark maroon foliage come on with the flowers adding a unique look to your landscape. In the summer the leaves will lighten a little bit but still offers an eye catching quality as the tree starts to develop its bright red fruit. In fall the leaves transform to a mix of red, orange, and purple with its fruit attracting a variety of birds and wildlife. This is by far one of the most popular of the crabapple varieties due to its foliage and flower colors as well as its open, rounded form.
