This perennial Geranium offers deep shades of green, bronze with hints of chocolate coloring across its consistent shapely foliage throughout the year. Starting in early summer, electric purple flowers emerge and hover above the plant through fall. It is a beautiful plant, but we would not call Geranium pratense a show stopper, rather it is a workhorse plant that gives you something for every season while asking very few questions of its gardener. The foliage is consistent and richly colored and the flowers are small, elegant and abundant. It is a great perennial for connecting one feature of your garden to another or filling in gaps.
This cultivar will grow in almost any soil conditions, but does prefer well-drained soils that hold consistent moisture. You should be mulching your gardens anyway, but this plant will benefit from yearly mulching, especially from a hard-wood mulch which keeps soil moist and full of organic matter. You can cut Geranium pratense back hard after blooming to encourage another full flush of flowers.
