"Classic, but bold" is a great phrase to describe The Cherokee Brave® Flowering Dogwood. This dogwood shares the natural elegance, textured bark and beautiful, dark green leaves of the North American white dogwood, but also stands out from the crowd with bright pink flowers that cover the tree in the spring. Unlike the softer more subdued shades of the classic red and pink North American dogwoods, the Cherokee Brave stands out with a very bold and strong pink bloom that contrasts with streaks of white that run through each petal. If you love dogwoods, but would like a heavier dose of color, then the Cherokee Brave is for you.

The pink dogwood - cornus rubra - is a special tree, because it rewards the gardener all year. As the days lengthen and warm, brilliant pink blooms cover the tree and announce the arrival of spring. When summer arrives the upward branching and deep green textured leaves provide an elegant and graceful appearance among larger straighter shade trees, evergreens, or the sharp geometry of your home. Swirling scarlet and purple leaves add to the color show in the fall, along with brilliant red berries that attract up to 36 species of songbird through the early winter.

This breathtakingly beautiful tree is an excellent choice to plant along streets, near large buildings, next to patios or as a property border. It provides an eye-catching display when planted in rows, but also excels as a solo planting, or among towering giants. Dogwoods do best in some shade and rich soil, but can adapt to a variety of conditions with proper care. Dogwoods do best with 2-3 inches of organic mulch.

Very pleased with my bare rooted trees.

The bare root dogwood trees I received from New Blooms were much nicer than I expected. The trunks were nice and thick and the stocky trees were well branched. But it was the roots that most impressed me,...they were very well developed and dense. The best root system I ever saw on such a small (3-4 foot) tree! I have purchased plants from many different sources over the years and I was pleasantly surprised by New Bloom's quality. Also,....the trees were packed better for shipping than any I received through the mail!

So far looks great!

Our new Cherokee Princess dogwood arrived 2 weeks ago in excellent condition. We planted it according to clear instructions, mulched it with hardwood mulch, and watered it daily, first using a bucket with holes in the bottom, then a circular soaking hose made for new plantings. As it’s November, time will tell how it does but so far it looks fine. We appreciated New Blooms’ excellent communication before shipping, shipped and arrived on time. So well packed that it was a struggle to free the tree, especially the plastic around the root ball, but can’t complain.
