Jack of Diamonds is Proven Winners 2025 Perennial of the Year, and for good reason. Brunnera is a perfect background plant that holds tons of micro-interest. In the early spring, green silver foliage emerges. From a distance it is a minty green, but on closer inspection contains intricate pattern silver patterning over a deep green. In mid to late spring baby blue, forget-me-not type flowers emerge handing over the plant on delicate stems. Leaves grow to 9-10" at maturity and remain circular.
Brunneras are classic perennials that are treasured for their shade tolerance and lovely blooms. They make a fantastic groundcover, though the variegated forms may be slower to spread than the species. Try growing them in containers too so they will be close at hand when you want to snip a few blooms for a spring bouquet.
