The Kwanzan Cherry (prunus serrulata) is a brilliant pink flowering cherry tree that is native to Japan, Korea, and China. Like other east Asian flowering cherry trees it is a very popular ornamental due to its stunning spring blooms and the clean smooth lines of its trunk and bark. The kwanzan cherry tree has a few distinguishing features that set it apart from other ornamental cherry trees. The mature size of the tree ranges between 20-35 feet with a very strait and somewhat thick trunk with very smooth silver/brown bark. Kwanzan cherry trees are known for maintaining a rounded appearance with a dense crown, which in the early spring becomes unequivocally covered in blooms. These double button shaped blooms are covered in many ruffles and have an appearance of flowers, inside of flowers, inside of flowers. For the fall the kwanzan cherry leaves will turn yellow, with the occasional mix of crimson or red depending on growing conditions.
